Artifact 2: TE 822 Short Paper

The purpose of this short paper was to define culture. Taking from TE 822, I use multiple readings to discuss how individuals are multicultural themselves. People can’t be categorized by one culture group. Individuals belong to multiple cultures and this artifact analyzes those cultures that are both above the surface and below.
The inclusion of this short paper is to indicate and reflect on instances in which I successfully used knowledge of the various culture identities of my students to drive instruction. Artifact 2 demonstrates my successful completion of goals 1 and 2 as well as standards 1, 2, and 4 of the MATC program.
This artifact is significant to my progression through the MATC program because it was the first time where my knowledge was seen as a commodity. This assignment helped me remember the importance and significance of culturally relevant pedagogy. It also allowed me to see the variances of culture within my own classroom, where diversity may not be as easily seen.
